For the first two days…

For the first two days of stay, your bucket list must include a tour on the lake and a visit to Como. Please go back to the itineraries we already proposed (in 1 day and in 2 days)

On your third day, we recommend a walk from the lake to the surrounding mountains.
You will leave Cernobbio by boat (the pier is a few metres away from our holiday apartments), towards Como, where you can take the funicular to Brunate. You can go further to San Maurizio Lighthouse on foot or by a small shuttle bus. From there you can take a look down the first basin of the lake, as well as at Milan skyline on a clear day. Back to Brunate, you can follow the “Strada Regia”, a path (quite steep at some points) to Torno, where you can catch your boat back to Cernobbio.

or else…

If you have already visited Brunate, you can reach Argegno by car (approximately half an hour from our holiday apartments), boat or bus, and get on the small cable car to Pigra, where you could just go around the village and enjoy a lunch in one of the excellent restaurants, or take one of the charming walks, starting from there.

or else…

Val d’Intelvi can be a good alternative, especially in summer. If the season is not too hot and you are good walkers, you can reach Lanzo d’Intelvi on foot and go back to Cernobbio by bus. If you want it the easier way, you can reach Val d’Intelvi and Lanzo by bus or car, following the indications from Argegno. You will visit rural villages, as well as find restaurants and farmhouses to taste the flavours of the area. If you go up the road from Lanzo, you will reach the wonderful Sighignola Belvedere (rightly renown as “Balcony of Italy”), 1320 m high, for a stunning view of the Alps and of Lugano lake.

If you prefer to stay on the lake, you can visit the other side, renown as the setting of Manzoni’s “The Betrothed”. You can take a boat from Cernobbio and head to Varenna (some info can be found also in a previous article…)

From Varenna you can then reach Bellano, by boat, train or bus, and have a refreshing walk in the famous ravine, for a fascinating view for you and your children.

Bellano can also be reached on foot from Varenna, with a 10 km walk (approximately two and a half hours), following the “Via del Viandante” path.
