If you love the mountain, and even if you are not keen walkers, we suggest a tour on the Alps with the famous Bernina Express Train, listed on UNESCO’s World Heritage. It is a unique experience, both in winter, with the blue sky reflecting on the white snow, and in summer, when you get to the glaciers from the green of the valleys and the pinewoods. The train smoothly climbs up to 2253 m, before going down to St. Moritz. The departure station is in Tirano, that you can reach in a couple of hours from Cernobbio by car. In Tirano you can climb on one of the panoramic cars of the train: in two hours it will take you to St. Moritz, famous holiday destination, certainly worth a visit. If you have a couple of days left, on your way back you can spend the night in Tirano, and visit the church entitled to the Virgin Mary (Basilica della Madonna di Tirano), and Palazzo Salis. You will certainly enjoy a traditional dish from Valtellina: the “pizzoccheri”, a buckweath pasta, seasoned with local cheese. If you still have time, you can reach Bormio, for a relaxing day at the baths.
