1st SECTION: ROVENNA – SANTA MARTA  (“LOW” ROAD)

A nice walk from Rovenna, a panoramic hamlet of Cernobbio, to Brienno, about 11.3 km that can be comfortably covered by dividing them into two sections: from Rovenna to Carate Urio and from Carate Urio to Brienno, walking on the “low” road, that is at an average height of about 300 meters above sea level.

Km 4.5 – estimated time 1:30

  • Minimum altitude S. Marta (296m.), maximum altitude Rovenna (476m.)
  • Starting on foot from Rovenna (cemetery car park), take the “Sentee di Sort” to the Casarico hamlet.
  • In Casarico from the Cappelletta you go down about 50 meters. and at the first intersection, continue to the left (the descent leads instead to the village and the lake – navigation pier).
  • Continuing on, you arrive at the Tosnacco hamlet (we recommend that you take the short climb that starts from a small traffic light on the left – about 500 meters from Casarico – to walk through the streets of the hamlet).
  • Above the square, continue on the Via Verde following the trail signs on the ground all the way up to Carate Urio in the Santa Marta area.

Very pleasant itinerary without demanding differences in height.

The return is possible on the same route or by public transport (bus – boat getting off at the Urio pier up to Cernobbio).

2nd SECTION: SANTA MARTA – BRIENNO

Km 6.8 – estimated time 2:00

  • Maximum altitude (482 m.), minimum altitude (221 m.)
  • Carate parking (Church of Santa Marta).
  • The itinerary is indicated by signs with green stickers up to Laglio Località Soldino where you take Via Val Crotto on the left and from here the route is indicated by green / blue stickers.
  • The first stretch up to Laglio retraces the green road between the hamlets of the town; after passing the state road via an underpass, the itinerary connects the upper hamlets and then continues on a path to Brienno with beautiful panoramic views.

“LOW” VARIANT: Km. 11,5 – estimated time 3.30 hours
Undemanding route in terms of height difference with panoramic views of the lake and a walk inside the hamlets.

1st SECTION: ROVENNA – SANTA MARTA (“HIGH” ROAD)

If, on the other hand, you want to try your hand at a more challenging route, you can take the “high” variant, which differs from the other only for the first stretch, which allows you to reach Carate Urio, through the mountain. This variant tends to lengthen the journey, so in the end the kilometers traveled will be 15.5.

Km 8.7 – estimated time 3:30

  • Minimum quota S. Marta (296m.), maximum quota Monti di Urio (761 m.)
  • Starting on foot from Rovenna (cemetery car park) from Piazza della Chiesa, follow the signs for Monte Bisbino next to the fountain.
  • After the Scarone locality, at the first bend, continue on the path that indicates Monti di Lenno, marked by Green / Blue stickers.
  • Once you reach the Bisbino carriage road, go down for about 400 m. up to the first bend where, turning left, follow the signs for Monti di Liscione.
  • When you arrive at the huts, go up to the indication Monti di Urio on the right, always following the Green / Blue stickers.
  • Crossing the mountain huts of Urio you will find the stone mule track which you go downhill to the Urio cemetery. Continuing then on the left you reach Cavadino and then Santa Marta.

“HIGH” VARIANT: Km 15.5 – Estimated time at 5:30
More challenging route with a difference in height of about 200 m. concentrated at the start (Rovenna-Scarone), then with little difference in height on stone mule tracks and connecting paths between the “Munts” at about 700 m. of share. Once you reach S.Marta, the itinerary is common to the first variant.
